Case Outcome
"No Further Action" (NFA) - What it Means
Understanding the best possible outcome after a police interview.
What Does "No Further Action" Mean?
If the police inform you that 'No Further Action' will be taken, it means they have concluded their investigation and have decided not to charge you with a criminal offence. This can happen for several reasons, such as a lack of evidence, or because they believe there is no realistic prospect of a conviction.
Key Points about NFA
The police have closed their investigation into the specific allegation.
You will not be charged or required to attend court for this matter.
The record of your arrest will remain on the Police National Computer (PNC), but it will show that no further action was taken.
Can a Case be Reopened?
In very rare circumstances, a case can be reopened if significant new evidence comes to light. However, this is uncommon. For most people, an NFA decision marks the end of the matter.
